Extremes...

Billy Joel once sang about life being either "sadness or euphoria." He later crooned "I don't know why I go to extremes, Too high or too low there ain't no in-betweens." Now that's a guy that sees thing one way or the other, not both. (Let's forget about the whole Shades of Gray thing... that was much later in his career.

OR, put perhaps more poetically...

Eugene O’Neil, the famous playwright, once said: "One should either be sad or joyful. Contentment is a warm sty for eaters and sleepers."

Hmmm… I kind of like that. Joyful is such a great word. Well that’s what I feel when I go back and watch some of these videos of Connor. The one of him dancing makes me feel so good and like my heart is overflowing. Full. Of. Joy.

If you think about it, babies are kind of like O’Neil was recommending-Extremes in one way or the other. I don’t think Connor ever gets sad but he’s either very happy, having fun, loving life, or if something’s wrong, he lets you know. Babies got it figured out. As adults I think we forget all the things we once knew when we were young.

One of the best things about having Connor is getting those glimpses into the world through his eyes. Babies can find joy everywhere they look, whether it’s dancing in the bath tub or tearing up a cardboard box. Smart kid indeed.
