Friday Night

Tonight we ate dinner at a hipster vegan restaurant, long story why, but it was cool. Then we walked all over town for like three hours. So much to see in this city- we love this town!

Here are some pics, one in which my back looks strange, one of an angel face baby, and one of a messy eater at the restaurant...

Boys Night Out Tonight

So for the first time I'm sort of going back and watching some "baby" videos of my "baby" that I have on youtube. Here's one of the first time he a) drank water and b) sat in a high chair. Pretty amazing...

Video Here

Last night we went to the Y and spent more time in the hot tub than the pool. Connor fell asleep while we ladled hot water on him--he loves it! Tonight we have a date night to go hear some live music and play at Whole Earth. Just me and Connor tonight, boys night out. I'm excited!

Oh, and here's a poem from the Writers Almanac, which I listen to everyday, that I really enjoyed:

My eleven year son wants to fish,
he owns two rods, one saltwater,
one freshwater. He loves knives,
Bowie knives, Swiss Army
knives, "Knives like this one?"
my brother says, opening his desk
drawer and taking out a small
jackknife with antler handle.
My boy camps outdoors, begs to sleep
outside, is always shooting
arrows, rubber band guns,
he is lashing together a fort
in the backyard. He sails,
swims, kayaks and wants
to know the stars.
The outdoor hunting genes
are in the dark men in my family.
Yet I believe he is a son of light.
His joy in reading, cooking
and piano are fanned
from the tinderbox
of his father's heart.
He will save rainforest,
he will grow vegetables,
keep horses, fly his own plane.
He will make his own brave life,
he will not remake our lives
nor redeem us, nor pity us.

Hot Mess

Last night after me and Connor's date night he ate (read: smeared all over his face, hands, shirt) dinner and ended up looking a hot mess. Bath time was in order and he got a little silly in the water...

Date night was a lot of fun. We, as per ritual, went to Sports Authority and played on the putting green. I get like 20 golf balls out and raquet balls and he crawls and plays and messes up my putts. It's a lot of fun. The manager kept coming over to glare at us. All I could say was "Oh well!" This IS a public store and I AM testing out the putters. Then we headed to Target to walk around. Finally, baby fell asleep in the car. I left him in there and worked out in the garage until mommy got home. Then we moved onto the antics mentioned above.

Today they are at the mall walking with a friend and tonight is the Y. It's all about FREE stuff, as you can see. After all, the best things in life are free.

Tackle

This is a girl who tackled Connor at book people after he made flirty eyes at her. Not sure if she got mad or loved it. Either way she took him down. He's still a stud...

What a day! This morning we hit up a few garage sales... Got a brand new kite and French press for a couple bucks. Then we went to whole foods and Connor made new friends in the cafe. We then played bocci ball at an Italian place.

Tonight Connor buddy had a breakthrough. We went to a party... At first he was scared but then he warmed up and became the life of the party. If this keeps up we might get a babysitter... One day! He did great though-- he also said "hat" for the first time. Incredible!

Too Long...

It's been waaaaay to long since I blogged. Last weekend we stayed w/ Aunt Maegan and Uncle Bruce and had a great time visiting them. Here are a couple pictures my sister took:

Thank goodness she had an awesome camera and we got some good pics of Little Buddy. Since Sunday things have been pretty usual--trips to the Y, some live music, and Connor has learned some new things.

He's pretty much got hi/goodbye wave down. High five is coming around pretty fast, gets it about 75% of the time, and he has had several periods of standing for about 5-8 seconds by himself. Should be walking before you know it.

I'm still at work but Becca and Connor are headed up here to visit and then we're headed to the library for story time!

Home is where ever I'm with you!

Holy moly me oh my, you're the apple of my eye...

Tonight Connor and I ran a mile in the rain. Or rather I ran and he bumped along behind me in the wagon his great gramma got him. We sure do get a lot of use out of that thing!

Tomorrow after lunch we are headed out of town to stay with aunt maegan. We are super excited!

Pictures of Life

Well I got on beccaannerices phone and found pics I like. The ball pit one is from yesterday. Today Connor busted his lip but he's a trooper. Also got flu shot and blood draw. Still a trooper. Time to go snuggle my little monster and fall asleep snuggling him...

New Favorite Place

This is an actual picture I took today while driving on Congress towards the capitol. Man riding horse down the street. A cowboy. A throwback to a bygone era. Another reason why I know I'm living in the right city and raising Connor in the right city.

Today I came home early and we headed out to a new jungle gym moonwalk bouncy house place. FREE, I repeat FREE for children under one. Since that's the case I officially decided there are 15 months in a year and Connor will have another 6 months of free thrills and playtime. Could be our new favorite place--it's such a cool place for kiddos!

Becca and I climbed up huge slides with him and he was diving off crazy stuff, flying around, in the ball pit, just all over. It was a blast.

We then went to Soccer Zone to watch some indoor soccer games, but Connor napped the whole time.

Then off to... where else? J-Del. I don't even have to order anymore. They just know when we walk in. The manager said there is NO one who comes in more than us. We said we want to meet Jason. It'd be like meeting the Wizard of Oz for us. We've been on the yellow brick road with that place for years. It's time we saw behind the curtain.

Okay, time for some reading and then bed time.

Lost in Babyland

Well the weekend winds down to a close as Sunday night is here. It's been a good weekend overall and I thought I'd try to write what I can remember. Friday night, can't remember anything that we did... drawing a total blank. Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

Saturday we got up early and went kayaking. It was super windy as a cold front blew in and there were white caps on Town Lake. I paddled both of us upstream and we found a park, played a little, and Becca graciously captained us back down stream. From there we stopped by Whole Foods for lunch and people watching. Weather was amazing.... Connor fed the numerous pigeons that frequent the patio while the workers scowled at us. They hate it when people feed the pigeons but we do what we want.

Then the library and spanish story time. I have switched to only speaking in spanish to him. He looks at me the same way he looked at me when I spoke english. So make of that what you will. Yes, Connor will grow up speaking Spanish. He then went to San Antonio to practice his spanish and see his grandparents. I stayed behind and built a flower bed in the backyard.

Tonight we had our first date night, just me and little buddy. We went to Sams, Jasons Deli, then Sports Authority, and finally Target. At Sports Authority we had the most fun. We went to the putting greens and I practiced putting (am I becoming a golfer? my dad and brothers say I am...) and got Connor a pack of like 20 raquet balls and we just took over that section of the store and played for like an hour. Then we saw Uncle Chris and Aunt Susan on the way home and they tried to hold him; Connor just screamed out. As per usual. The child is spoiled. Rotten. And he does what he wants.

Mommy returned from a birthday dinner and we went for a ride in the wagon. Mema sent him three new outfits that are all awesome and 12 month size (growing too too too fast). We called her and face timed for a minute and she saw him in the wagon she bought him.

I guess that's about it, or as much as I can remember anyway.

**

Oh yeah. I also watched Lost in Translation. One of my favorite movies. There's this part where Bill Murray is telling Scarlett Johanson about having kids. He's talking about how your life as you know it completely dissapears. She thinks this is a bad thing...

But then he says that they learn to walk, and learn to talk, and they become the most delightful little people that you will ever know.

Well there's really no other better way to put it than that. I agree completely.

Snoring Time

After a big swimming trip to the Y, Connor decides to sleep through dinner at J-Del...

But he will wake up soon, probably just in time for night owl playtime. That usually lasts till about 10. Then back to snoring!

It was a great weekend with my parents, brothers, and my 95 year old grandpa. Pics to come soon!

Now it's time to eat!!
